Buying a new Gun

I am looking for a new goose/turkey gun. i am only 16 and can only afford $300. i am looking at a mossburg 835 ultri-mag. If you have any suggestions for some guns it would be great.

Thanks

870 express super mag......It will run you just a little more than the mossbergh but i think it is worth it. I was trying to choose between both of those and a Binnelli Nova. I chose the 870 because it felt a lot more solid to me and the Nova was way out of my price range. I would go hold some guns and see which one feels best to you.

I'll second the 870. Best gun you can get in that price range IMO

You can find the 870 black syntheticsuper mag on sale for under $300. Don't buy a wood stock.I would definately go with the super mag, in case you want to shoot 3 1/2 inch shells. This is the perfect waterfowl gun. It will kill just as many ducks as a $1000 Benelli, I guarantee you. Go with the 26 inch barrel and an IC choke. A 28 inch barrel will be okay, but the 26 is bestfor steel.

i shoot a benelli nova 3/12 inch pump with a 28 inch barrel. It was $346 like 2 years ago. Its a great gun for the price, its easy to clean and take apart in the field also. Last weekend i got a pebble in my action which wouldnt let me close the chamber. I toook it apart and was shooting again in the matter of 45 seconds.

Another vote for the tried and true 870!!!

Plus you can use it as an oar if you want, it's a tuff gun.;)

I wouldnt buy a mossberg, they are so sloppy, if you get an opinoin from a gunsmith they will call them 'high priced boat oars'. cant go wrong with an 870. benelli novas are nice guns too.

If you like autos and dont mind cleaning I would say look at the Mossberg 935 if not take a look at the Benelli Nova...

870 all the way. mossbergs are fine until you go to clean it or have to field strip it and then there are way to many parts. as for stoeger my buddy has one that is a steaming pile of dookie. and the price of a nova has gone up quite a bit in the past few years not to mention the reciever is made of plastic. if you get an 870 you will have a great pump gun for the rest of your life and then be able to pass it on to your kids and their kids..............................you get the idea you just cant go wrong with an 870

870, but I'd lay off the 3 1/2 stuff. Shoot a few and you'll see why.

I have an 870 and a 835.I havent huntedmuch with the 870 since i purchased the 835 i personally like it better. i think the mossberg 500 gave them a bad name for making cheap guns. but the 835 has proved itself to me as being a very durable gun.I kill deer, turkey, doves, ducks, geese, quail, pheasant and rabbits with mine every year with mine with no troubles since i bought it in 1999.
