white fronted goose vs. Canadian
 

Is there any easy way to tell these two apart while they are in the air? They look very similar to me. Maybe I am just blind to the difference at a glance. But it is currently White front season and not Canadian here in Missouri and I was really hoping to avoid any confusion. Thanks.

They really arent that hard to tell apart. Canadas have a black head, white fronted geese are grayish brown. White fronted geese also have a distinctive white band at the base of the bill. Specklebelly's also have orangish feet, canadas have black feet.

Shouldn't be too much confusion. They really don't look all that similar... not too sure how they look in flight; I've never hunted them before.

For the most part, Canadas will be bigger also.

their noises, also look for the bars on the white-fronts, and the cheek-patches on the Canadas

No matter when duck/goose hunting identification is part of the game, they should ALWAYS be close enough to tell! I wish I had the opportunity to have to ID some specks over me!

When you see canadas in flight look for the white cheek patch. and then the black neck with that combination they stick out like a sore thumb. and when they are back pedling in the decoys look for the barring on mature birds and orange feet. the biggest clue of all is there call it sounds like nothing else.
