i shoot black clouds

I'm sorry to hear that!

I'm guessin you're new to waterfowling, so go with somethin cheaper, and more reliable... me and the people i talk to have had way too many bad experiences with blackclouds. The cheap winchester steel loads should do you fine right now. I shoot Federal ultrashoks. I still don't care for the flight control wads.
Oh no Chris, up until that post I have agreed with every word you have ever written on here. I'm just kidding with you. I don't doubt at all that you've had bad experiences with them cause I've certainly heard a lotta folks say they hate em and I don't think they got great reviews on this site from what I remember. I just happen to like em. A lot.

Actually, I am a former BC hater turned BIG TIME fan. Once I figured out what choke to be using with it, BC really performed for me. My turnaround day happened one afternoon when I shot my last DryLok and there was nothing left in the pit other than a box of BC. My cousin gave em to me and told me to give them another try. Up until that point I had been using them with a modified choke and absolutely mangled every duck I shot with it. It would cut close ducks in half (literally) and make hamburger of those at regular shooting yardage, and that's if I could connect with them at all. I hated the patterns. Anyway, I changed out the modified for an IC choke and it all came together for me. Clean kills the rest of the afternoon and season.

Therefore, I'd have to say my favorite is BC. My less expensive back ups, my Old Faithfuls, are still DryLoks. And yes I get made fun of for showing up with those too, but the ducks sho don't think it's funny .
And so, friends become foes!

Now, I'm sure that everyone has had different experiences with different loads... like the good ole boys off the "Flyway Highway" love those Remington Wingmaster HDs. $40 a box!?! Even so that not even as bad as the Kent Tungstens that go for $50 a box, and you only get 10 shells... ridiculous. When I'm rich I'll shoot em. [8D]

However, I've never got a sufficient pattern out of any of the chokes I've tried... IC, Mod, Full; out of patternmasters, Pure gold chokes, carlsons, nothin. And, a buddy of mine has an 870 that the action would get stuck and it would take slamming on the ground to get it open shooting blackclouds.

I love Federal ammunition, just not these. [&:]I get excellent results out of the Ultrashok loads... I shoot #2s at everything from geese to teal, and they get the job done. I dropped a goose from about 35 yards out with a Mod Pure gold choke this season. I got em up out the water, and there were about 15-20 pellets on his breast. Hamburger!

And about the dryloks, i agree with ya! They're cheap, and they still hit the ducks hard. Thats all we used last year. In fact, we made fun of people who DIDNT use dryloks. Some new guy would crawl into the blind with some Hevishot, and the jokes started flyin!

I've never tried the Fasteel. I don't think anywhere around here sells them. I'll have to order some the next time I'm gettin somethin out of a catalog.

I shoot 3" Rio #3
3.5" Fed 1 3/8 BB
Or my 1 oz reload of #4, 3 or B at 1600fps
That is in the 870 and MP 153
The 11/87 and SKB Waterfowler pattern other loads better , so they get fed diffewrent loads

Bumb a few of every load you can off freinds and buy what patterns well in YOUR gun

a conversation i had yesterday

Game warden(well looking at a pil;e of birds): You guys did great out there. Those hevi-shot sure do the trick dont they?

Me: Nope, not hevi's at all, most of these geese were killed with 3" BB/BBB's, why waste the money on hevis when they die for cheap rounds.

there that should answer your question, i shoot what is affordable, and just learn how each siz patterns with my gun

For the last few years, I've mostly used HeviShot in 2 3/4" 1 1/4 oz #4s. Great load for decoying birds.
