New Equipment

First question, what new equipment other than shotgun shellsare you guys getting for this ducks season? New guns, new calls, new waders, new camo, a new mojo?

Next question, of the new things you intend to purchase, which items do you truly believe are a necessity to the hunt and will actually enable you to take more ducks?

I am going to try my best this to not blow a ton of money on things I don't need this year.My calls are fine - I only use two. My waders are fine (assuming they don't leak on me this year). My shotgun is fine. The only two things I am thinking about possiblybuying are a half dozen more decoys to hunt some sloughs and possibly a boat blind. Other than those two things, anything else will be me just spending my money on thingsthat won't make a difference in how many ducksI take home.

RE: New Equipment

Money is tight right now for me. I'm a college student who works less than 20 hours a week; hourly pay in the single digits [>:].However my duck gear has been expanding in size since august. Here's all that I've got so far:

[ul][*]6 GHG Life-size bluewing teal decoys[*]12 GHG Mallard decoys[*]Riggin kit for the decoys[*]Drake Waterfowl Systems floating blind bag[*]Duck Commander Teal Call[*]Zink Power Clucker Goose Call[*]Cabelas Insulated Shooting Gloves[*]Pure Gold Modified Choke Tube[/ul]
Here's whats still on the list before the end of November:
[ul][*]Floating Decoy Bag[*]New Mojo Mallard[*]Floating gun case[*]LED Headlamp[*]A spotlight that can hold a charge for a little while[*]Multi-tool[*]Skinning knife: Preferably gerber or buck knife[*]Long Sleeve Camo Max-4 Shirt[*]DC 4-n-1 Jacket[*]Convince my dad to let me take out his johnboat, or buy it :D[/ul]
Yessir stocking it up this season!

On the subject of stuff that i NEED,I probably only need the johnboat, a skinning knife, the jacket, spotlight, headlamp, and some decoys. You don't need a mojo mallard, lots of decoys, 20 calls and so on. The johnboat is a necessity: its a 12 footer with an 8 evinrude on the back... thats all the power and size that i need. I need a new knife because I lost my other one. It doesn't have to be a gerber, but i like quality whenever i buy my gear. I need a headlamp and spotlight so i can avoid stumps in the boat, and not trip over things while im walking, and it would probably be a good idea to have a dozen mallard decoys. Where I'm from, the biggest spread I've seen was about 30 decoys.

As for electric decoys, steel chokes and all that stuff, you don't need them, but they certainly aren't hurting me any. That choke lets me stretch out to 40/45 yards, and from my experiences with the mojo mallard, it makes the ducks commit a hell of a lot easier.

Mojo something or other, ive found that even a mojo dove will bring the birds in on a hook(hunted over one most of last season and always had a good shoot)

Yeah, I have had mixed views on mojos in the past. Nonetheless, I've got three of them. They work pretty good for me in the first half of the season when the birds aren't so decoy shy. I have found that several, I mean 3 to 5, mojos clustered together really work well.A lone mojo can get a duck's attention, but a wad of them is convincing.

I'll prolly look into another mojo this year. And I do believe that it will allow me to take more birds home. I'm prolly gonna get a baby mojo though. I have found they are quieter than the big ones and they're easier to carry.

I like pretty much any kind of motion decoy as long as they're quiet. We use 2-3 WonderDucks, 3 - 5 Mojos, two mallard machines, and a Wake Maker. All that movement on the water seems to do the trick.

Why did you pick RnT?

I'm not taking you to task or it. I love RnT calls and I think they're some of the best around. Just curious how you made your selection.

I have a couple of high dollar calls, but I also have a couple inexpensive quackheads that work awesome, the key is knowing how and when to call.
