RE: geese hunting

for geese at least bb and i wouldnt make any shots over 40, depending on how well you can shoot. Dont become a skybuster because everyone hates a sky buster. If they are to far, hold the shot and try to get them feet down in the decoys.
and ya 3 inch is great for geese. Buy some shells and pattern them and see how well they pattern out of your gun and go from there

IMO 90 -95% of all waterfowl hunting can be perfictly done with a 3" shell

For Gaints I would recomend 3" 1 1/4 oz BB at 1400 fps or faster
BB's I use 40 yds as my max
Past that you will get to many sailers and cripples

The 3' 1 3/8 oz loads lack enough velosity to be efective past 30 - 35 yds

BBB's pack more punch , to gain you a few extra yds or enough penatration for going away shots
But lack pellet count to get good patterns in some....err many factory choke/gun combo's

Pattern you gun , bum a few 3" BB's off freinds and see how they shoot in your gun with your chokes
As what works in your buddies gun , might suck bigtime in yours

If you are willing to spend a few extra $ ( remington has a $15 rebate on right now )
Remington 3" 1 1/2 oz of HD #4 is murder on geese , to past any ethical range

I like to call them in close enough to shoot the ones with bands LOL
Last year I shot most geese at 25 - 30 yds
But I still like BB's because I might need to finish one a little farther out

RE: geese hunting

Out of the 3" 870 I run Extended Briley LM and Mod tubes
Out of MP 153 I run a Factory Steel full

I would pattern your factory IC and Mod

My guess , the IC should work for decoying birds and the mod would be better for longer shots
