Decoy question

Just started waterfowl hunting last year and did pass shooting. Didn't workout so well, but with the elk hunt-decoy research had to take a back seat. So with that in mind, can I buy duck or goose decoys and have the others land? Example: Day 1, hunt geese on land with decoys. Day 2, duck hunt on water with same decoys. Will this work assuming I get floaters of course? Thanks.

RE: Decoy question

goose decoys are the best confidence dekes for ducks they tend to land in the goose dekesa lot........late season last year we used floater geese on land limited everyday when your on the x it really doesnt matter trash bags would even work.

If I understand the question,
ducks will come to goose decoys.
geese not so much to duck decoys.

They also make stands to use the floaters on land

RE: Decoy question

it is going to depend partially on where you hunt.... I often use certain goose decoys, particularly snow and specklebelly (white fronted), to keep ducks from working over a certain area.... while they will often land near goose decoys in the water they will rarely land among them (remembering ducks oftenlike to land in open pockets rather than in between decoys).... all that being said, if I were planning on hunting ducks I would carry at least 1/2-1 dozen duck decoys.... they don't have to be the best in the world just hold the ducks attention while they are working.....

2eagles, that is right. You were much more concise than me. Great advice and appreciate it. Thinking about going with those goose inflatables made by Cherokee, keeps cost down but look realistic and throw a few ducks in there too. Only Canadian goose hunting right now, state may open spring hunt for snow, ross, etc. Thanks everyone.
