RE: Call
There are so many to choose from nowadays it can be confusing. Ilike single reed wood or acrylic. As far as make pretty much gotta blow different ones til you find one ya like. I blow JJ lares and a mike mclemore mallard magnet. you get what you pay for the lower the price more trouble with reed stick tuning board problems. But there are some really good sounding inexpensive calls out there. Try to get a fairly raspy one for the type of hunting you are doing.

RE: Call
I use a Hunter style Rich-N-Tone and a Greg Hood' s Southern Game Calls Nasty Boy for ducks. I use a Lohman flute and Illusion Short Reed for Canadas. I also have an Illusion Snow Goose Call.

RE: Call
A very good and inexpensive call you can get at Wal-mart during season is the Haydel DR-85. It is the call I learned on and is still the call I use the most. I have never tried a call that was easier that this one. I think I gave around 10 or 15 bucks for it. Another inexpensive call is called a 6 in 1 whistle. I do not remember what brand I have. I use it mostly for widgeon. If you here a " who...we...who who...who who...we...who" you can hit the whistle and it will almost always turn them around and bring' em down.

RE: Call
Haydel is my favorite. Great double reed mallard that can be easily modified.

RE: Call
I have RNT short barrel and I like it but my favorite call for timber is my Foiles Migrators Timber Rattler. Plus Foiles is a great guy and will give you help with anything you need.

RE: Call
i have a double reed pro magnum duck call by big river game calls. i think i only paid like 10-15$ for it and its one of the best calls i got. doulbe reed is good. i recomend it.

RE: Call
Primos make a great call for hunting timber its called the Timber Wench and the best thing about it is its cheap.
|
RE: Call
I' d agree with several others in that Haydel makes a nice cheap call. For open water, nothing compares to my Echo. I haven' t been real happy with the " nasty boy" .

RE: Call
for me i prefer open water duck calls such as Echo EEL or a nice Giden custom call but i blow a Quack Master by quacker boy its cheap but raspy and loud i got a winglock SR goose call in delrin i blow also awesom goose calls by rick perry id never give this winglock up anyday but the best open water duck call in my opinion is a EEL or a Winglock Hedge duck call

RE: Call
My favorite duck call is a DU special addition double or single reed call that my dad gave me years back. I am not sure it is any better than the newer calls, but just feels right or at home around my neck. I do have others that I produce raspy hens sounds, etc but the DU call is by far the most used.

RE: Call
Also consider learning how to call with your own vocal cords. I used to use an old P.S. Olt duck call, but on a whim, tried calling in the ducks with my voice and it worked. Later expanded to calling geese so I don' t see why a manufactured call is even necessary.

RE: Call
the calls i use are handmade from cedar. the name of these calls is SK calls. i also like the echo calls as mentioned above. just stay away from duck commander calls. to me they all sound " flat"
