Would this be illegal?
I had an idea for hunting geese in a field the other day and was wondering if it would be illegal or not. Here in Oklahoma, the fields are huge and often there is no cover where you can sneak up on them. Most of the time they are 100 yards out from the trees. Anyways, I was wondering about using my slingshot to shoot a small firecracker out past the geese to scare them in my direction. Is this illegal? I can't find anything about it in my waterfowl regulations. Thanks for any info! Matt

I assume you have permission to hunt this property.. ANy way why dont you just go out ant set up in the field before the geese get there. Im sure you can find some kind of cover.

lol...An idea I would have never thought of in a million years, but could work if done right. I guess it would be legal.

RE: Would this be illegal?
I would like to see someone sling shot a firecracker 100 yds. I have some property I hunt geese on and I cannot use decoys. So the day before, I go and see were the geese are feeding. I get there before day break and get down wind of the area they were feeding. Cover up with the same surroundings if possible. If the geese come in, let the first group land, that away the other groups behind the first group will see it's safe and should fly low and right over you. 9 out of 10 times this seems to work. This usually works for regular season. Now for the special season, that's a different ball game.

Thats when the 22-250 comes in handy, pick them off one by one.

RE: Would this be illegal?
I'm with Boudreax, I'd like to see you slingshot a firecracker 100yards. Actually ... you'd have to slingshot it more than that to get it on the other side of the gaggle. Otherwise they'd fly off AWAY from you.
22-250? That's how MOST of these guys that have all the bands around their necks get them. (That's not an accusation of you, TexasGeese. So don't lambast me.<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>) Most GW's would let you get away with a lot during the conservation order time. Romans 8:28 |
RE: Would this be illegal?
Matt- why do that when you can just mine the field with small explosives. Then when the geese land to feed and walk around they will set off the explosives. Or you could place explosives that send shrapnel in all diffrent directions and will kill everything in a 30 foot radius of each device. This will give you a higher percentage of kills by far than shooting a firecreacker with a slingshot.

You could shoot an arrow like the Dukes.

I'm thinkin... I'm thinkin...
Set up a spread. If there's no cover then buy a layout blind. Hunting is a sport, don't try to take that away from it. Jerry DE Duck Hunter |

I don't know about where you are from but in california they would probably try to find something wrong with it.
Its not worth doing unless its done right. |
