Field Reports Please!
 

First off I'm new to the board and want to say Hi. I've lurked for a while and got some great tips from you guys. I was never a decoy hunter. I was a puddle/pond jumper and needed some help making the switch. It's been a blast this year and I'm hooked. I almost enjoy waterfowl hunting more than bowhunting which I'm pretty passionate about!

Anyway, I hunt in North Central Texas and haven't seen the large migrations I'm accustomed to. I'm hoping the cold weather is pushing some birds down for our final weekend of duck season. Any of you guys north of the red river seeing any birds.

I have noticed increased numbers of geese in the last couple of days. Lucky for us, light goose season is extended until the end of March.

First of all welcome to the boards txbowjunkie, I am about 90 miles due north of you straight up 75. It has been probably the worst season I have ever had this year, theres just not any birds moving through. I have been out the last couple of days and haven't seen much, but most of the small to medium ponds around here are froze over so I guess if any ducks have moved down they are on the larger bodies of water. I am still going to do my best to find some this weekend, I just hate to pass up the closing weekend.

Up here in SD we have had such an open winter there are still scattered bunches of mallards and Canada geese here. Soon the light geese will start thinking about coming back. I had a very successful season up here but that has been over for over a month.

Well, my duck season came to a close this weekend. It was cold, wet and lots of fun but not very productive. I'm not complaining because I did manage to take a couple of singles but I'd liked a little more action to tide me over during the long off season!
