Need some advice - Calling

Guys,

I'm a little embarrassed to admit this, but I'm terrible at blowing single reed calls. I'm fine on a double reed, but I cannot get the right pitch and consistency on a single reed. Do any of you guys have any suggestions on any good instructional cds? I have heard that Buck Gardner makes some good ones. I really appreciate any advice you guys have.

Also, I apologize if you guys have already discussed this recently. I am a littlenew to this forum.

You're on the right track with Buck Gardner. If you are blowing a double reed correctly and still having problems with the single reed, it is probably the call and not you. I blow my double and single the exact same way and always have. Borrow a single reed that you know is in tune and see what kind of results you get. Good Luck!!:)

Buck Gardner for sure, in my opinion nobody blows a call as good as Barnie Calef but he dosent teach how to do it half as well as buck.

Thanks guys. I just ordered the Buck Gardner cd, Straight Talk. I'm hoping this is a good one. I'm also going to get one of my buddies to look at my call and show me how to properly tune it since you said that could be the issue. My double reeds, all Duck Commander, sound great and I'll probably keep them around this season as a security blanket. My single reed is an Echo, Echo Poly Open Water. That the one I'm trying to learn on. My cousin blows Echo calls in competitions so that's why I went with Echo for single reed. I'll probably get another one when I get a little better. Again, I appreciate your advice.

Good choice on the Buck Gardner cd. I have that same one, and learn from it every time I listen.

Also, look into the Buck Garnder Tall Timber 2 single-reed call. For the money, I have yet to find a better single-reed. I used to combine that with my RNT Short Barrel for deadly results. The Tall Timber really can do it all. It's also good to have when you listen to the Straight Talk cd, because that's the call that Buck uses.
