I need advice on what kind of socks to wear
I have been hunting in Georgia for about 5 years. Down there it doesn't really matter what kind of socks you are wearing, but on cold mornings my feet would sweat and get cold. This year I'm gonna be hunting in Northern Illinois and I would like some recamendations on what kind of socks I need to have. Thanks for your time.

Wool over a lite weight cotton sock
The cotton will wick the sweat away and the wool will keep your feet warm
You should try hunting the ice some time
We have a Feb late goose season
We set up our layout blinds out on the open ice ( white snow covers )
And place full bodies and shells around us
Or set up on the edge of open water
And sit on the ice with our feet in the water
Last year it was -5 and the hunting was great
Had a 1/2" of ice built up on the outside of the waders

I wear a under liner sock. Never cotton though! Always either poly pro or fleece. Cotton holds moisture does not wick it. Then a nice wool sock over the under sock. another trick. Don't put on your wool socks untill you done setting your decoys. That way your feet don't sweat and then they won't freeze!

The only thing that has ever kept my feet warm is a Merino Wool sock. No liners, definately no cotton, no polyester. Wigwam makes a knee high wader sock that is around 75% Merino Wool (the rest is poly stitching, nylon, etc... general sock stictching stuff). Its a great buy. I have poor circulation in my feet... merino wool is the way to go. All the fabrics and fibers used in a sock are listed right on the back... let that be your guide.
Also, and this I cannot stress enough... make 100% sure that you completely dry your waders after each hunt! Just a little bit of sweat down in the boot area can make you freeze your ass the next morning. Those peet PVC tube boot dryers are priceless! Don't leave your boots in the boat!
