winchester shot

i am new to goose hunting and just bought some winchester 3" expert steel shot in size BB. i know nothing about shot size nor steel shot as this is only my second time waterfowl hunting. i also bought some remington nitro steel in 3.5" just in case. are these an alright choice.any info on range would help.they will be shot out of a mossberg 835 with the factory turkey choke as i dont want to use my mad max for steel shot. thanks

Xpert steel is not your "Best" choice. You can kill birds with them. usually don't pattern well. You really do get what you pay for. For the price you should check out Kent faststeel. That is all I use and it works great for me. As for your turkey choke... You should use a Modified. Full at most. It will help your odds of killing birds! I assume you are hunting geese. BB's and#2's is what I shoot. ducks I always shoot 2 3/4" #4's. Good luck!

If your gun can shoot 3 1/2's that's what I would shoot... As far as a choke, when using steel shot I use a modified choke.

My favorite shot size is BBB, if I'm going to be doing some pass shooting I may shoot T shot... In my trials, I would say that BBB is my favorite all around load.

take out your factory turkey choke. it's extra full. shooting steel through it can damage the tube and the threaded portion of the barrel. go with modified. after you shoot all the xperts, try buying a different brand of shells.
