Shotguns today are sort of like water, they seem to run either hot or cold based on the current vogue or what's hot or considered cold in the firearms market. Like all present-day firearms technology there as been a massive amount of accessory add-on attention paid to them over the last few years. Shotguns have had a lot of tactical stuff added to them whether they needed it or not and sometimes current buyers of new shotguns are awe struck if a plain Remington 870 shows up at the range dressed in it's 20" plain barrel with a beaded sight.
"I've never seen a shotgun like that before, where's all the good stuff?" Good stuff being interpreted as the flashlight, the extra shell holders, folding stocks, magazine extensions, safety extensions, ghost-ring sights, red-dot sights mounted on a Picatinny rail and last, but surely not least, the tactical one-point attached sling. Tacticaled out, they weigh in the 10- to 15-pound range unloaded. I use a 20 ga pump. I only shoot decoyed birds and I don't need a 3 1/2 inch 12 gauge or a 10 gauge to do it. |

So, does that mean the stupid ones ? |

Probably one of the few people alive who still hunt with this particular gun. In fact there are probably very few who have ever seen one, let alone hunted with one. I use an Ithaca Model 66 Super Single. Which for those of you who are not familiar is a single shot lever action. I shoot it in 12 ga with a 30 inch fixed modified barrel. I have been shooting this gun since I was 5 years old and am now 46. It is simply a waterfowl killing machine. I remember watching my dad shoot his first double with it when I was 8 years old. He dropped two greenheads in one shot. I have since doubled on ducks and geese on a few occassions, with one shot, and have taken doubles on mallards twice getting off two shots and dropping two birds before they made their escape. I have doubled on geese with two shots on one flock on several ocassions.
