Heavy shot #4 for geese??????????
 

My brother uses Heavy Shot #4s for ducks & geese. Given, I use them for ducks, and I know they hit HARD, but aren't they a little underpowered for them big canada honkers?

All I use is Hevi-Shot 4's on both ducks and geese. If you are shooting geese over decoys at 20 to 30 yards they are deadly. Any further out you would need to get a few pellets in the head to bring them down. Hevi-Shot 4's are equivelent to steel BB's so I say whack away with em. We are field hunting Canadians here in Missouri and having fun!

Well #4 Hevi is my favorit goose size shot
To 40+ yds it dose great
Out of a Light Mod choke , my 11/87 will kill every goose "I" can hit

#2 Hevi will strech the range to 60+ yds

Glad I bought 40 lb of #4 Hevi when it was cheap

#4 Hevi is by far my favorite duck and goose load. My longest shot is 80+ yards on a goose, this is WAY farther than I normally shoot but it was a long day and was more of afrustration shot than anything. Any ways, I squeezed the trigger and that goose folded dead. I always use a Pattern master choke as well so I'm sure that helped.

If you have ever hunted with lead, you will remember the people used 6's for ducks, and 2+4's for geese. Rarely would people ever use BB's for geese with lead because you just didn't have to. Same goes for Heavy shot. Lot's of energy, plus the smaller shot size creates a denser pattern. All my dad shoots is 2 3/4 (sometimes 3") #6 Bismuth or Heavy shot. Whack's geese like my 3 1/2" #2 or BB steel. Wish I had the money to use it.

I normally just use #6 hevi for everything. For years we have killed ducks and geese with #6 all dayout to 50 yards, no problem.

But when Rem quit with Hevi-shot, I got a bunch of #4 Hevi on sale, so I have been shooting it lately. Hammers ducks, and the only goose that stumbled into my spread this year looked like he got hit by a truck at 50 yards. Really nasty stuff.

Back when my grandpa used lead for ducks and geese he use #6 for small ducks #4 for big ducks and #4 buck for geese

Heavy shot is still made, it is not contracted thru remington anymore. Hevi-Shot produces it themselves now.
