Grassing layout blind ?????
I just purchased a new FA SUB layout and currently have it grassed with bean stalks from the field. I would like to have something a little more versitile and long lasting. Can anyone give me some tips on grassing in my blind and maybe what to use??? thanks

RE: Grassing layout blind ?????
This is my Cabela's layout blind after grassing with either Quack grass or Killer Weed .( I have used both )
Cabelas sells 1 or the other It is best to first mudd the blind Get a gallon of loose dirt in a 5 gallon bucket , mix in water till thined to a white glue consistancy or slightly thinner. Spread on the whole blind , allow to dry . Buy a "Grass" color that closely matchs what you hunt . This blind is set up for corn feilds , I have another set up for green feilds Then take a small hand full of the Grass and tie it to the stubble loop If your grass kit comes with more than 1 color , don't make big blobs of 1 color Mix it up . Start with shorter Grass on the bottom ( I cut some in 1/2 ) and work up No need to do every stubble loop I did every 2 or 3 After you are done , step back and fill in where needed if you have any Grass left over 1 thing if you hunt where it snows I use the cheap cans of Wally World fake snow to turn the blind white when needed . To remove the Snow , allow the blind to dry in the gardge or basement over night and take a broom to it . It brushes right off my blind Hope this helps Johnch ![]() |
RE: Grassing layout blind ?????
that grass on your blind looks too familiar...like a 2.00 price tag at wall mart

RE: Grassing layout blind ?????
Nope , Avery Killer Weed Golden Harvest ,$29.99 at Cabelas
I tryed the cheap stuff a few years back IMO not worth trouble to color it , but it was cheap Also I ( most years ) hunt 80+ days a year ( this year will be less than 50 days due to my bad back ) The raffia just didn't hold up It worked OK till it stayed wet for a week , never got a chance to dry off , and it was only on the blind for45 or so hunting days The Killer Weed is going on the 3 season It is from a different plant Yea if you don't hunt as much as we do it probely hold up longer , or don't leave your blinds stay wet . But we hunt a lot of wet feilds ( partly flooded ) and kill a lot of birds And the blinds stay in the trailer from Aug to Feb with the decoys Johnch |
RE: Grassing layout blind ?????
i hunt a lot of corn fields, and was wondering does that grass blend in well with the corn stubble. it looks alot different then the corn and would like to get something so i dont have to re-camo my blind everytime i hunt but i dont know if those killer weed kits or whatever kind will work in a corn field. let me know
thanks |
RE: Grassing layout blind ?????
i use mine in corn but i also dont have mine covered as much as his... if igure this well lessen the time is takes in the morning to break up the out line as well as aadd more definition to the camo a tipp .. i didnt do it but if you buy the raffia i suggested i would "mud" it because it almost looks white.. were as the corn is dirtierr looking

RE: Grassing layout blind ?????
That color seems to blend in with corn stalks well
If you step back 20 yds it apears to disapear into the corn stalks My guess it is more the color than the texture , maybe the clumps , look like corn stalks ?? We were out in a cut bean feild this AM , in the rain [:'(][:'(] We set up in a area with some grass and weeds , not much though . Set the decoys in family groups all around us , wet by 8 am , done by 9 am The geese didn't seem to see our blinds Johnch |
RE: Grassing layout blind ?????
