RE: gettinng a downed bird
I have had this problem before. My solution, hunt somewhere else so that you won't have the delimma of trespassing vs wanton waste.

RE: gettinng a downed bird
leave you gun at the fence and go get it, unless it is a refuge. land ownerwould be hard pressed to get you charge. I hunt private land righ next to a state section. once in a while some one wounds one and it comes over on our side, if it doesn't come in to our decoys I'll tell them to come get it and most times if we finish it off I'll run it over to them. beside it give the dog another chance for a retreive.

You have to leave your gun behind. What do you need it for if the bird is stone dead?

RE: gettinng a downed bird
Another good reason to have a well train dog, even if the dog didn't see the fall you could handle it to the bird.
