Duck season opens this weekend. I've always shot #2's at ducks. What do u guy's like to shoot the best. If so what type. I normally use regular steel. I did buy some heavy steel this yr. though.

I prefer #3 steel. Its not for everyone though...just for those who can't make up their minds about #2 or #4's.

Mainly I shoot Kent TM through my old guns, but, since that's not an option anymore, I'll go back to Hevi out of choke tubed guns. I like #6's for open water and #7.5's for tight timber.

I like heavey steel myself, like #3 one ounce shells. Unfortunaltely, my 20 gauge takes only up to 2 and three quarter shells... I bought some 3 inch shells not knowing this. How embarissing it was to tear down the gun in the middle of the blind...

I use BB's. Only reason is then I won't need to tryto change loads when geese are coming in, and they don't rip up ducks too bad.

I use BBB in my 010 Ga.
I use BBB in my 10 guage too since here in Northern California you are as likely to have geese flying in asducks and #2 steel shot, while adequate for ducks, does not seem to perform well on geese.

I use mainly my reloads .
I shoot #5 for teal .
For big ducks in the timber I shoot #4
I start the marsh with #4 backed up with #3
Later I switch to #3 backed up with #2

By the end of Jan I shoot #2, #1 or even B if they are fat and not decoying

But I mix in #7 or #6 Hevi loads in for several guns

Geese I start out with B then BB or BBB
But if I am hunting with the 20 Gauor the 2 3/4"12 gauI shoot #4 Hevi shot

Depends on the ducks we're shooting...

Early season being mostly woodies, teal, smiley mallards, ext -1 1/8 oz. #4s

Later season being mostly mallards - 1 1/4 or 1 3/8 oz. #2s

Ducks and geese - 1 3/8oz. #1s

Geese - 1 3/8oz. #1s or BBs
