if i had a duck on water or a dove on the powerline i would jump it and shoot it flying just to make it more exciting

Spook them up and then shoot them. What's wrong with that? It's easier to shoot them when the birds are in flight.

this is my first year to duck hunt. So far i have killed around 10 or 12 ducks, two of which were off the water. I would rather shoot them in the air, but here it is not illegal to shot them off the water. But those wood ducks would just rather stay on the water and swim from you, and they wouldn't fly, so i ended it right there.

Sometimes ducks will fly into my decoy spread prior to legal shooting time. If all is well and they remain, my buddy and I will stand up at the appropriate time, thus startleing the birds into flight and then attempt to take them in what we deem sportsmanship fashion. More often than not they will wheel around and return, again attempting to enter the spread even after having been fired upon! The best time to nail 'em in my opinion is when they're straight on their downward path in with wings cupped and ready to land. If you need to finish one off in the water then that's most appropriate but better make due time because I've had plenty get a full head of steam up and head for deep water. Not to get off the subject; but my son and I recently were able to hunt on Long Island during the special January firearms season. These deer were so ridiculously tame that one came within 5 yards of my son and we thought for sure he would have licked his outstretched hand. You can best be sure we DID NOT take a shot at that. Deer in the Adirondacks and local suburban deer are two different animals! As role models for our sport, we should all "raise the bar" and maintain a high sense of ethics and sportmanship!

Bucker,i'd never shoot them on the water..but i'd flush them and then shoot them..sometimes they don't always decoys perfect and alot of guys don't get the chance to shoot them..so my answer is flush and then bang them!!!!! honkers..

I agree with drgildy. The only time I believe it is ok to shoot a duck or goose on the water is when your crippled the bird in the air. I think any "true sportsman" would not set their shotgun sights on a duck if the duck is already on the pond

I AGREE WITH THE MODERATER, DUCKS ARE TO HARD TO KILL ON THE WATER. I HAVE WASTED MANY MANY SHELLS TRYING TO FINISH OFF A CRIPPLE. JUST FLUSH THEM AND WACK EM. HAPPY HUNTING:)
