waterfowl loads
i was thinking about spendin' the extra bucks on the lead alternatives this year, besides steel. i got a nova 12ga. i been seein' that alot of the nontoxic recomend a nitro proofed barrel.all i plan on usin' is the chokes the gun came with, and the 28" barrel. i aint gonna shoot anything out of the full choke, but the bismuth site i was at said i could. (i thought bismuth was brittle, and didn't penitrate well). i went to the benelli website, and nothing about nitro barrels was mentioned. 'geuss my question is, what can't i shoot out of this gun?

RE: waterfowl loads
I have shot about anything you can find through my Nova- you have no worries!! I recommend IC choke for Hevi and similar style shot.

RE: waterfowl loads
Put your modified choke in and go hunting, you can shoot everything with
that choke. It is the only choke you need . |
RE: waterfowl loads
I think you can shot any non-toxic shot out of it as long as you keep the choke to modified or more open (e.g. IC). I'm coming around to the point that it's best not to over choke for most birds we typically hunt.
I go with faster hevi steel or tungsten for heavily feather northern ducks and geese. But I've shot plenty of ducks with straight steel 1 1/4 oz + faster the better for me. Each finds what works best for them the way they shot and the shotgun. Try patterning several different loads and chokes at distants you think you'll likely to shoot most at and it'll give you |
