Duck boat question...
 

does anyone on here use a pirogue for their duck boat??? i have a 12 foot jon boat and a 16 ft canoe but none of them are very easy for one person to handle since i can never seem to get a reliable hunting partner. i can handle the canoe fine actually moving it but it sticks out a ton from my 6 foot bed on my truck. the jon boat fits fine but it's a pain to move by myself. other than these problems both boats work fine but i was thinking... what about a pirogue. i found some plans for a 12 or 14 ft one so would this be a viable compromise??? or would it be a waste of my time to build??? or should i just try and find a way to make one of my other boats work???

I have you looked at Poke boat's?http://www.pokeboat.com/PokeHunting.htm I think they make a model with the single hunter in mind.
I have gone the route of building my own.
It was fun, it was project that I did with my father. My Dad had a great mind for what a duck boat should be, we really didn't have a drawn plan. If he had not been their I have no idea whatI would have ended up with. It was a lot of work. If you wish to email me I would be happy to share.

yeah johny i would love to hear about it. how long did it take, how much did the end product weigh, and stuff like that. it would be much appreciated.

I'm Sorry, it's taken me a while to get back to you. I will be breif.
The duck boat that I made had the shape to Foot Ball. It was about
16ft long with a 13 ft x 3ft pit in the center. It was built of ceder strips and then
fiber glassed over. Wt was about 65lbs. It handales great on water
andif very stable, it was made for more marsh hunting. It you like I
can try to free hand some drawings that might help better describe what
it looks like.

thanks for the info. i think i may try and either get a trailer for my john boat of and try and make a cart type of thing to hold most of the weight of the boat. if i can get an outboard for it i'm going to go with the trailer.

Easy way to load the jon boat in the back of a truck.

Get a sawhorse, drag the boat a little past the horse then put it up on it with a couple feet hangin over then back the truck up to the tilted boat, lift the front of the boat and slide it in.
