RE: Need help with Duck I.D.
No I don't think it is a redhead. It looks like it is something non-native to the U.S. Don't know for sure, but it kinda looks likethe geese I saw being shot in Argentina on T.V. once.

It almost looks like a Fulvous Whistling Duck.. I shot them in Mexico. They are found all over the globe... Exept for Most of North America.

RE: Need help with Duck I.D.
I sent the picture to a bioligist in Auburn, AL and a friend that works for the corps of engineers, and they both think it is what they call a Ruddy shell duck that is native to Asia. They have been contactingeveryone they know that might have this kind of duckin captivity, but no real Identification... I don't know. If you would like to see what they think it is follow this link to the page....http://www.squawcreekfarm.com.
Go to enter the farm.....then waterfowl.. then shellducks.... then ruddy Thanks for all the help guys |
RE: Need help with Duck I.D.
I agree. That's a Ruddy Shell Duck. A lot of people raise them, but they're not native to N. America. It probably escaped from an aviary somewhere. Apparently, they're pretty aggressive ducks and they can withstand extreme cold temperatures. What do you plan to do with it? Eat it? Mount it? Matt

RE: Need help with Duck I.D.
The Biologist told me that it had probably escaped from an aviary. I didn't shoot the duck, one of my buddies actually shot it. I am pretty sure he is getting it mounted since it is not a common duck to Alabama. He told me that a game and fish guy was supposed to come and draw blood from it sometime this week. ( I guess its a scare about the avian flu or something, don't really know)
Thanks for all the help guys> Always shoot 'em Cupped |
