Will they come in

I found a new spot to hunt but have a question. The lake I want to hunt is about a 20 acre lake that is probably 10 to 15 feet deep. It has cattails all the way around. The situation I have is that it is only about 12 inches deep with little vegitation for about 40 yards out then it sharply drops off(it is this way around the whole lake). My question is will ducks decoy into a spread in this shallow water or should I find some place else to hunt?

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

RE: Will they come in

I hunt a few lakes myself, with one being very large. Some times we use a boat but most of the time we just take in a 1/2 doz or so dekes with us and set them up in less than 2 ft of water, sometimes only about 6ft from shore. We have all the cattails too and the marsh is full of that swamp goo that you can sink in if not careful. We have had lots of birds decoy in plus some bonus geese too. So give it a try, it sure can`t hurt none. Good luck.

Ron is dead on!

We hunted on Saturday in a marsh in 3 feet of water off of a large bay in the marsh. We had about 20 duck decoys set out 10 yards from shore and 3 goose decoys off to the side. The 3 of us stood in the cattails and did quite well 20 ducks and 6 geese.

Good Luck
Glen
