cant quite figure it out yet
iam new to duck hunting i just started this year i have shot 4 leser scaup blue bills and one widgeon but in my spot when i can get them ducks withing 25 yards i have no problem taking a lead on them and i usually get them but around 30 -40 yards i am missing them and it makes me mad because i know my gun is capable at that range what should i try diffrent in my shooting?

Are you sure that the 30 to 40 yard range is accurate? I suggest you wade or step off 30 paces and mark it with a stick or decoy. Then try a shot at a duck with what you think is the proper lead. Now if you are still missing increase your lead till you start killing them. It is very easy to misjudge your distance on open water and that is why I suggest this. Also remember to follow through with you lead. Good luck!

Stepping off the yardage is a good idea. You might want to try setting your farthest decoy at the end your shooting range, so if the birds are inside the decoys you are good to go. Another idea is maybe go to a tighter choke for the longer shots. One more thing the divers fly pretty fast so lead the birds more than you think you need. Most people shoot behind their targets rather than to far in front. Hope this helps. BTW what choke and size of shot are you using.
