Teal like mud flats or real shallow water and will decoy to and duck decoy.
Wood ducks like cover or flooded timber.
I set my 3 wood duck decoy with in 3'of the cat tails or tree coverd bank
Woodies may buzz a decoy spread in the open ,but usaly will set down out of range next to cover.
Flooded timber is best . I set out my decoys 3-6 and lean on a tree and call .
Watch the water ,they may swim to you.

The most important part of hunting teal and woodies is the scouting. If you know where they are they are two of the easiest birds to kill. I truly beleive that teal are the dumbest duck in the world and they will decoy into almost any set. As far as calls go, I don't think a teal call or a wood duck call do a whole lot of good...in the area I hunt anyway. BE READY at the first second oflegal shootingbecause that is when these two species are most active. A good scouting trip, a dozen decoys, and a well concealed blind is all you should need.

For woodies I would really recommend a wood duck call. Big River Game calls has one that is excellent. In our area there is a lot of hunting pressure and we hunt on a big public swamp so there are always lots of people and the call really seems to bring them in nicely. I have never heard of anyone else using one in our area and that is really nice because the ducks have usually only heard that sound by a real woodie and they seem to love it especially in the late season.

wood duck calls areworthless u do not want to call when they are coming in and u wont see them till there right in your face coming in and the'll either want in on your spread or fly by like your not even there
