Wood Duck Calls?

I bought a wood duck call late in the season last year and didnt have much ofa chance to use it. The reason I purchased it was because I was seeing large flocks of wood ducks in corn fields and a small pond my friend and I hunt, but they didnt respond very well to regular calling. It's a Haydel "Compensator". IMO the call sounds goodcompared toreal wood duck squeals.Has anyone used this, or other wood duck calls? Are they effective?

RE: Wood Duck Calls?

I use2 wood duck calls in the flooded timber. Not sure the brand of 1 the other is a OLT that I have had for 12-15 years .
It's neat to have them come swiming up to you so you can flush them .

Never tryed one in the feild.

Will also work in the marsh , if you place 2 or so wood duck decoys next to cover.

I have used a 6-1 duck whistle more last year to make the woodduck call than the regular call ,but it takes a lot of practice.

RE: Wood Duck Calls?

this last season i bought the Duck Commander wood duck call because i was hunting some timber that held a lot of wood ducks and it seemed like they were alot like calling mallards DONT OVER DO IT! they shyed away or just all out flared if i called when they were real close but it did a good job of getting thier attention when they were aways out or turning the other direction.
