Looking to start taping hunts
 

Ok guys, I've seen this come up in the thread quite a bit but it never really seems to take off.

I have a lease in Pike County, Illinois. On the lease is my dad, a friend of mine and myself, my friend and I are interested in trying to take a deer on camera this year.

What I want to know is:

1. Whats a good starter camera, no budget I just want something thats going to perform but still be entry level?

2. Anybody have any tips on either filming someone else or self filming hunts?

3. If you're going to hunt with a friend and film, how do you set up your stands for the best taping? Same tree one high and one low or different trees same height?

4. Any other general knowledge that anyone has about taping hunts that they would like to contribute to the discussion

1. Not sure on a entry level camera Sony’s has some cameras that are good in low light. Go tapeless if you can.

2. Self filming is tough to say the least. I would trade off with your pal. Running the camera can be as much fun as hunting

3. We put our cameraman stand about 3 feet higher in the same tree positioned to look over the Bow arm of the shooter.

4. Get a good camera arm. Muddy sells a one for smaller cameras it’s called the outfitter (fluid head sold separate)

Thanks for the info! Its greatly appreciated, our goal is to just get a shot on camera this year whether it be a doe or buck were not going to be picky just starting off

I just came across your post on filming hunts. I've been filming for years and I can tell you that it is one of the most gratifying feelings to bring the hunt home. Not just taking an animal on tape, but just making footage and sharing it with folks.

I don't have the best camera, actually and old one, but one thing that makes a big big difference in the quality of the footage is using a good camera arm. I use the HunterCam Cradle line. I like them because they will attach to a stand, go on the tree, and I can use them in a box blind or even other stuff outside of hunting. I'll let you check them out on your own. I could talk my head off about filming hunts. I love it!
