Jason's camera arm and 501 head?
OK, as some of you know I bought one of Jason's custom built camera arms a few months ago... Just recently I found a good deal on a original 501 head so I bought it. What do I need to attach the 501 head to Jason's camera arm?

RE: Jason's camera arm and 501 head?
One of 2 things. A Mitchell Plate to ball head adapter or the mounting plate that is a single 3/8" bolt. If you get the Mitchell plate>ball head adapter then you can do quick adjustments for leveling.
The Bogen/Manfrotto accessory page should have what you need or look at the B&H site. Also some of the Hollywood style custom production houses may have something else for the 75mm size ball. |

ORIGINAL: stikbow26 I just screwed mine on with a 3/8 bolt right through it!! I have 2 arms and 2 501.. Walt All you need is the 3/8 bolt that screws in the bottom, get a size that will stick out 1/8 to 1/4 from the arm. I am pretty sure it is course threaded, but someone else would have to verify that for me. |

Yep standard bolt course threaded!!!Walt

THANK YOU! I thought I was going to loose my mind with all those "ball head adapters" and such! :D

Yes you can screw it straight on.....and then spend your time leveling the whole arm and head.
With a true ball head it takes about 5 seconds to level. But I'm thinking forward....scuse me. |
RE: Jason's camera arm and 501 head?
I have not used that particuliar arm, but from the pix I have seen i would have to agree w/pm69442 , the only leveling adjustment i see on the arm is for horizontal, the bracket doesn't look like it has any vertical adjust for the arm, so while you may be leveled one way ,when you move the arm side to side it will be off if you're on a less than perfect tree..........A ball head would take care of this problem quite easily.
