HDV Question

I'm using a Sony HVR-Z1U and I just started filming in HDV mode. Can I continue to use the $2 mini-dv tapes or should I start using the $8 HD's??

RE: HDV Question

I would rest with MINI DV for a few years until HD breaks loose on hand held cams....its like everything else....until HD is the STANDARD....you're better off using mini DV...it still does awesome.

RE: HDV Question

I don't shoot HD, but from what i have been told, the regular mini-dv tapes do just as well as the high dollar HD mini-dv's............I'd shoot some footage with the sd tapes and some on the hd tapes and compare the footage to see if there is a difference.;)

RE: HDV Question

You will be fine with the miniDV tapes. We use the HD tapes, but i dont think its a necessity.

One thing to make sure you do is stick with a consistant brand. I would use Sony tapes as opposed to the cheaper brands. It would be a shame to lose the hunt of a lifetime because you bought cheap tapes! Also switching tapes can cause wear on your heads and damage your camera.

Good luck this fall!

Good idea! I'm filming in HDV too and have been using the Sony HD tapes, about $8 or $9 a piece. I bought a bunch when I got the camera but have not tried the standard mini-DV tapes.
