should I send my camera back?

I have a HP photosmart 945, besides the size of it (can't just drop it in my breast pocket) its fantastic and I have gotten some really good pics with it. Problem is it chews thru batteries, and I don't mean it simply uses too many, I mean a set of 4 new duracell AA will only last a weekend.
The warranty is done, and I bought it on-line using airmiles so I don't have a dealer to take it back to.
I guess my real question is how expensive are digital camera repairs? I don't want to put a few hundred $ into this camera after seeing a friends new Cannon, but I don't want to toss it either. This camera laughs at rechargeable batteries. I literally have to have a new set of quality batteries with me every time I take it out, could this be an easy fix, or did I get a lemon thats not worth the bother?

Some digital cameras are just battery eaters, especially if it takes high quality photos. You just have to keep several sets of batteries on hand and keep them all charged. My mom had the same problem. She just tried several different brands of rechargeable batteries and finally found a set that wouldn't totally drain away ina couple of hours.

Good luck!!
