RE: South Dakota Pheasants
I just talked to the farmer we lease from. He said his farm got 2" of rain a couple weeks ago. He is worried about the younger broods surviving. Broadhead Billy might just be on to something if back to back years of very few young ones making it.
Mathewsconquest2 P.S. Sorry to let you down Billy....I'm still coming out for the opener. I just want to continue to stimulate the SD economy. |
RE: South Dakota Pheasants
Ther have been a lot of areas that received very heavy rains in the last few weeks. The areas like up in Brown county and the northern tier of counties also the area down by Burke and Winner. This should thin the broods out pretty well. The hens will sometimes renest if they don't hatch a brood but if they hatch a brood and then lose the chicks they seldom renest. Hope this helps you.

RE: South Dakota Pheasants
I live in minnesota, so I have hunted both south and north dakota, and I think that ND has a lot more pheasants and better hunting then SD, SD's hunting has went downhill for quite a few years, while ND has been a "secret spot." I would reccomend southern ND to anyone looking to shoot a few...hundred birds

RE: South Dakota Pheasants
I met a guy I ride the bus with to work a few months back and it turns out he's from North Dakota and went to high school in Great Falls, MT. We've been talking hunting and he said his daughter has over 3500 acres of prime pheasant land in western ND and he is the only one that gets to hunt it. He invited me along this fall so I can't wait. I think it helps that I've got a decent hunting dog. I'm really looking forward to trying it out there and we stay right at the farm so it will keep the cost to a minimum. Love hunting roosters!!

RE: South Dakota Pheasants
All this pheasant talk really has me fired up. I have a seven month old pup in training right now. I was hoping he would be ready this year yet. He is being professionaly trained.
If any of you ND people would be willing to let a newbie hunter/dog combo give it a try, we (dog and I) sure would appreceiate it. Please let me know. Thanks. [email protected] |
