Took The first bird my new shorthair pointed

I have been pheasant hunting for about 6 years and never had a bird dog to call my own.
Sunday we went to Grant City, Mo on private land and dropped the first rooster that he pointed. I was so happy i didn't care if I saw anything else all day.
Final talley two roosters and 4 quail.

boy you sound just like me!! well i have a lab, and he doesn't point, but anyways. we shot our first rooster and showed him the bird. he picked it up by the wing, and dropped it right away. second rooster we shot, we figured we'd have to go find it first then try to get him to pick it up, but we were talking back n forth saying there are prolly more roosters, out of the corner of my eye i see him runnin out to where the bird went and he picked it up and he brought it back right to our feet. boy like you said i could've cared less if we didn't see another bird after that. Congrats to your dog! and keep on hunting with him!

I feel the same way. When I go hunting with my dog, my feelings about how the day went always is determined by the way that my GSP does in the field. If I get a shot off or not, that doesn't matter. If my dog finds, points and retrieves birds that is what it is all about for me!
