Dove Decoys

Does anyone hunt over dove decoys? I am thinking about buying a few. I was just wondering how this works and if anyone has had success using decoys. Thx.

We tried using them last dove season here in Oklahoma...they certainly didn't hurt and they seemed to help I think...we only had 6 of them, and we only put them on the barbed wire fence in front of us, but it seemed like the guys who had the decoys in front of them got a few more shots...It was hard to tell though because the field we were on was loaded with dove. I am going to experiment with them a little more next year.

I have used them several times, mostly in ND, but also in CO. I have used them on the barbed wire fence like spirit horse mentioned and they seem to attract some birds, but the best result that we got was using them near a waterhole. We put them on the branches of bushes and bare tree branches out in front of us. It seemed to suck the birds right into the waterhole. We used the silouettes and pinned them on the branches. Good Luck and let us know how it goes.

they seem to work for me. doves usually swing by for a closer look when i have decoys set out. this basically brings some birds in range that would normally have flown by too far. i used foam dekes, and i made my own silhouettes out of some thin pieces of wood, painted them 2 shades of grey, and put a little spike on the bottom to stick them in the ground.

I have had some success with home made ones. I use 20oz soda bottles, sprayed them grey and strung them on some heavy cord. Work pretty well. If you try this, make sure to get the holes for the cord high enough that the bottles will be upright.

I never used any myself but it wouldn't hurt to try someday. This season wasn't the best i ever had but i can't complain too much but it was also the last time my dad and I got to hunt together [:o]
