Bio...to begin with, pheasants need an abundunce of agricultural land, corn and other grains, sugar beets, potatoes etc. They also need uncultivated land such as CRP, marshland and sagebrush. In other words...good feeding areas along with good cover for loafing. If there are trees around they will roost in them.
As for Chukar, steeeeeep, rocky terrain with plenty of cheatgrass. Brushy areas and a few juniper trees helps. In deep snow...look on the ridge tops where the wind and sun have exposed feed and soil.
Quail are perhaps the most adaptable upland bird. They seem to thrive just about anywhere as long as there is moisture in the Spring, and plenty of different types of cover.
Hope this helps,
Rick

Rick gave you pretty much the list. you will find chukars with roosters when a hillside of sage is by it. sometimes the best pheasant hunting will be in the sage foothills near the AG. fields. Dont overlook old creeks or canals that have alot of brush or cattails [ quail and pheasants like this] for chuckars and huns we hunt draws that go up to maybe some rim rock, the birds will hold good in those areas. I hunt eastern Oregon for chuckars and huns and western side for waterfowl. HAVE FUN!
