Any forecast of pheasant numbers in the plains states such as SD, NE or KS? Planning on a trip in Oct. I haven't seen any info online. Mostly find year old articles.

Bird number are low in south central South Dakota. I would say not as bad as last year but still low around here. State should be doing bird counts soon with results out shortly after.

They will just buy birds from WI and other states I am guessing. Big tourism.

Thanks.
I kinda figured it would take a couple of GOOD years to rebound. It was less than ideal last year. Disappointing. Some friends of mine are heading back this year. Think I'll take a pass and go fly fishing instead.

SD has good numbers...we did well near Mitchell. If you are going to hunt Fed Land make sure
you do not use lead. I hear of many problems for hunters not using non-tox. My son used
his new 20 gauge with Hevishot Duck shells and wore them out
