One ounce 6 Shot for Pheasant?
Hey guys,
I ran into a bit of a dilemma. After going to 4 stores between yesterday and today, no one had any 2 3/4" 6 shot in anything other than 1oz loads. I guess the 1 1/8 and 1 1/4 loads got hit hard. Anyway, have any of you guys ever used the 1oz on pheasants? An eighth to a quarter ounce of load is a lot to give up. Thanks is advance.

You are correct. Used them today on both pheasant and chukar with no issue. One of the chukar's heads was only hanging on by a thread. Did the job at about 25% of the cost of the "pheasant-specific" loads.

I used to hunt pheasant a lot with just a 20 gauge OU and 7&1/2's. It was with a pointer so the shots tended to be a lot closer. Never did hunt chukar so can't comment on them but the 20 was plenty for pheasant. Based on that, I think your 1 oz. load in a 12 gauge would be just fine.
