have you tried contacting say a Vet school, not sure where your from, but a school like Cornell in NY< is a great resource for picking the minds of many vets and NOT just the one you work with, they see thousands of dogs a yr,(as well as many other animals species) and are top shelf in care for them, up to date on latest and greatest new things as well
if nothing else its a highly educated second opinion(or third and so on)
there are many great schools like this out there
but Cornell in NY is one I have many personal experiences with and highly value the advice and help I have gotten from them over the yrs, they DON"T push anything, just hive you info and options! then its your call!
Smaller local vets, seldom have any where near the experience of places like this!
