SC upland hunting, where to find wild birds?
 

Me and my father lives in Sweden and are planning a "Hunt and fish roadtrip" trough South Carolina down to Georgia.

We have over 10 years experience back home hunting with pointers(English Setter) for upland birds. So we know the difference between farmraised game birds that are released and wild natural smart birds that gives both the hunter and the dog a challange.

Im looking for a outfitter/guide/plantation that offers good upland hunting with good pointers on wild birds. We value to se a good dog make a good work on smart and shy birds more then bag tons of birds. For us a decent day in the field is 3-6 birds and som good dog work.

Problem is that its hard to find a destination for hunting when you live across the big blue atlantic. All the search results shows big plantations with released birds. Can you find decent hunts with pointers in south carolina on wild challanging game birds?

Other advices on good hunting and fishing in the south carolina/Georgia is also very welcome.

If you want all wild birds you are not going to find what you want. While there are plantations and properties that have some wild quail, theyy don't have enough to support an ebtire season of hunting. Many do what is called early release which is supplementing the wild covyes with pen raised birds a few weeks before they hunt those coveys. I can't point out an outfitter in SC that has wild quail but I have hunted Pine Hill Plantation n GA. They have wild coveys suplemented with early release bitds. They have a kennel of english pointers and setters and also use Labs for retreiving. You may hunt from horseback or from a mule drawn wagon to follow the dogs, then dismount and flush the coveys when the dogs have them pinned down. Pine Hill has first class accomadations, food and lodging. I had a 3 day hunt there several years ago. It is true southern quail hunting in long leaf pines and wiregrass habitat. Link below.

Thanks for a quick reply. The place you recommended has a minium of 4 persons per hunt. We are only two.

If I were you I would contact Pine Hill and explain you are coming from Sweden to hunt birds. I suspect they will find a way to accomadate you. You can also Google quail hunting in SC and again for GA and you will find many other places to hunt quail, bit not all use the mule drawn wagon of horseback. You ask for other species to hunt. I have understood that the hog hunting is very good. Ive seen those deer\hog combo package, but i dont understand the pricing. Mostly the prices range from 1000-1500$ for three days hunting with 3 boars and one deer buck included. Thats very cheap if its correct. I suspect the success rate on the deer is low or that is some trophy fee that i cant seem to find? Or is deer hunting so affordable in SC?

I agree, you need to do your due dilligence when you are coming so far to hunt. I wish you luck in finding a place that suits your needs and that you enjoy hunting in the US.
