Grouse surrogator????

If anyone knows, is it possible to raise grouse in a surrogator that is built for pheasants and other upland birds?!?!?!?!:confused0024:

Grouse do not do well being raised in captivity, their food is very specific. In addition there are very few legal sources for ruffed grouse eggs and day old chicks.

Is it possible to plant the certain shrubs(barberry, etc.), in the pen?

I am a 12 year old boy that has a farm in Centre county PA and we have great habitat for almost all upland birds. We have a lot of large barberry patches and about 70 acres of CREP grass. We have the habitat, but no birds. With our habitat, the grouse on the farm should be multiplying, but instead, we have been small game hunting all year and have jumped a fair amount of rabbits during the season and walked and kicked every barberry patch that we have and haven't flushed anything. Over the years, my dad and I have flushed a couple of grouse, but nothing like it should be. I wanted to know if we could do anything to raise our population.

Crep grasses are not grouse habitat, grouse are birds of the mountains, woods and edge habitat. Additionally, grouse are cyclic. Wild grape and greenbriar are good grouse foods along wth crabapple and hawthorn. For your information, barberry is probably the worse thing you can have as it is a harbor for deer ticks, the more barberry, the more ticks. You should cantact the PA Game Commission for information about grouse habitat. The PA grouse study area used to be in Centre CO near Scotia.
