Want a higher dove-to-shell ratio?
Try decoying doves especially near water holes.
Dove like to feed on bare ground out in the open. They don't like to dig or scratch for food. Bring these birds in close so there is no excuse to miss with a shotgun. Have good a bird dog too to retrieve them. A Lab works great because a downed dove may fall into a water hole. Many downed doves are lost because they were simply not recovered in the field. Use a wide choke as improved cylinder or skeet for doves over decoys. Use good skeet, target or dove loads too for excellent patterns. There is no excuse not to limit out on doves with a single box of 25 premium shotgun shells. This is something to train, plan and scout for well in advance of this coming dove season. Here is a good video: mostly one shot per downed bird... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TZj1BXKoagI |
I'll bet this is another great "how to" from our newbie that doesn't even hunt, LOL!

We are not all built out of solid gold bricks, my friend. I am out of college with a computer networking degree and in the middle of changing careers at age 50. I used to be an auto mechanic by trade but have health issues precluding me from that field. Charley Dickey's "Dove Hunting", 1976, Galahad Books is good place to start for the novice dove hunter. I can only dream and read about hunting until more money rolls in. |

Why attack the OP. He is only giving his opinion. Some time's it good to read hunting how to book's. Research might not be as good as practical doing, But it still can be a learning source. My 2 cent's.

You obviously haven't read any of the other 70+ odd posts that he's made in less than three weeks after joining this site or you wouldn't be making those comments!
