Pigeon Hunting Anyone?

I was wondering if anyone out there has hunted pigeons before? I have seen people hunt them on the outdoor channel in Argentina and other foreign countries but never have i seen it in the states? Is it possible to shoot large numbers of birds in the states and if so how is the easiest way to get started pigeon hunting?

I shoot a lot of pigeons in the uk. On an average day I will shoot 200 birds with just me and a friend. We use decoys google FUDS they are what work best for us.
Good luck.

Sounds like good sport! It would be nice to have wood pigeons here. It would be nice to still have passenger pigeons.

These guys make some decoys for rock pigeons.

There is a season for "band-tail" pigeon here in SoCal.

Very short season ~ about 15 days

We shoot regular barn pigeons here. I grew up on a farm and we shot them all the time. I still go out and shoot them and use them for retriever training in the off season. The eat just the same as doves, just bigger. We call them silo mallards!!!!

Pigeon Hunting

I have been hunting pigeons for about 10 years now and it has been an awsome way to make the off season for ducks and geese fly by. Pigeon hunting has no rules, no seasons and no limits in my home state of Idaho so i can shoot as many pigeon as i want whenever i want. I have found that the easiest way to kill pigeons is over pigeon decoys in places that they tend to concentrate at. If your able to get permission on a feedlot or dairy your success will increase very high and you should end up with a lot of birds. There is a website called Soar No More Wingshooting and they have got pigeon hunting down to a science as far as decoys and info on how to hunt them. Here is an awsome video clip of how fun pigeon hunting can be.

Pigeons also follow flight lines, so if you can see where their flying set up underneath them the following day.

I tried it once but I find it hard for a beginner like me.

I have shot an unknown number of them. They make excellent eating.

There is also a very expensive (the betting anyway) sport called "live pigeon".

A high-end game for millionaires.
