pheasant/quail load
Since where I hunt we run across both bobwhite quail and pheasant. I was wondering what would be a good load/choke combo. As for the guns, I have 12ga auto, 16ga pump, 20ga auto/SxS, and a 28ga SxS. Season starts Nov. 10:)

People might not agree with this but i say #7 1/2 shot would work well.
#6 shot would work great for pheasant but might be "overkill" for quail. I was always told that #7 1/2 will work for everything in my area (ruffed grouse, wood cock, bobwhite quail and the occasional pheasant). I have downed everything from squirrels to blue herons with 7 1/2's. The blue herons are pretty big birds but the #7 1/2s with a modified choke at 30 yards made quick 1 shot kills out of them. Don't tell the wardens  . |
Fiocchi Golden Pheasant High-Velocity
As you head out to North or South Dakota your going to need to make a choice on ammunition. I can definitely recommend the Fiocchi Golden Pheasant High-Velocity shotgun shells. With a Muzzle velocity: 1,485 f.p.s. (2 3/4“) we recommend the #4 shot for maximum range and take down capabilities. Give it a try! |
