Kansas opener
Saturday was the opening of pheasant seasonin Kansas it was hot and dry but lots of birds. Also lots of hunters hitting the walk-in hunting areas south ofBucklin. I like to hunt around St. John in central KS, Wellington south central KS, and in Grant County out west what does the bird #'s look out in those areas?
Good luck and be safe. |
RE: Kansas opener
That's great. I've read that the Kansas Pheasant season should be a bumper crop this year. I myself will be pheasant/quail hunting on my family farm in Macon, MO next weekend. It's the first time in 2 years since I've hunted pheasant and quail, hopefully I'm not too rusty ;);). wish me luck!

RE: Kansas opener
Leaving November, 21 to hunt Wa Keeney, Kansas. My bud Gregg and I mostly hunt
Walk-in areas and a small piece of private land. The locals pound the area but always leave a few birds for us. It’s my understanding that they have snow on the ground and the temperature will be in the 40’s come Thanksgiving week. Can’t wait to get there!!! |
RE: Kansas opener
I didn't hunt opening weekend as it was too hot for the dogs. Hunted last weekend and saw at least 70 pheasants and 40-50 quail. 70-80% of the pheasants we found were henswhich is encouraging hoping they will continue to hatch large numbers. Most of the birds were sitting tight in CRP or tall grass in mornings. Found lots of birds in cattails around ponds and creeks as well. Found a few in fields, but the wind seemed to keep them in cover. There were 3 hunters and 4 dogs. Will go out again next weekend same places and let you know outcome.
