Default prairie chickens

I am wanting some information on hunting prairie chickens on public land in Kansas. I hunt sharptails in Montana in late September but distance and expense makes that a once a year deal. Kansas is much closer as I'm in Oklahoma and I like finding more uses for my pointing dogs. Tough to come home from Montana and wait for quail season to open at home.

Default RE: prairie chickens

birdhuntin,
have not seen a large amount of Prairie Chickens anywere lately.
I used to go to Canada in the summers to train Bird Dogs on the Prairies.
For the last few years we would find (Hard Hunting on Horse back with big running dogs) 3-4 Coveys per hour during prime time.
In the Middle of the day we would only find 1 and sometimes none.
There were a good amount of Huns and a few Pheasant
Oaklahoma was been good hunting the past few years especailyaroundin the Western Part of the State
