Home range of quail

Hi, Im just curious about how big the normal home range of quail is? How much land would be needed for good quail habitat? I have a 40 acre section available that is mostly pasture and very few quail, a 20 acre wooded mountainous spot that I have never seen a quail and a 10 acre section where I have seen numerous quail this fall and winter. I guess it depends on the surrounding lands also.

So any ideas on how big their natural home range is?

Thanks

the conservation tells me that if the habitat is managed right then you should have a covey of birds every 15 acres.

Ok, thanks, seems I might be able to keep a covey or two maybe if everything goes right.

I assume you are asking about bobwhites.

Here in KY, I have hunted 3 seperate covies (wild birds)over the years within a 2-3 acre area.I'd say home range is typically under 5 acres for the areas I hunt. Many variables could change this from state to state and area to area.
