RE: Preferred Gun, Shot, and Gauge for Pheasant???
settle down now boys... i never said I shoot the 20 guage!!! i shoot a 12 guage SBE II... the worlds finest auto-loading shot-gun. I like the reduced recoil, speed, and 5 shots that i can get w/ this gun rather than an over-under... in south dakato we kick up flocks of pheasants at a time... the guys i bring out with me from minnesota shoot the silver pigeon for about ten mineutes before they go back runnning for their auto-loaders... i think that the 20 guage is a great gun, but it lacks the extra shots when it counts and most importantly if i was buying a gun today i would think twice about 20 guage, because of the banning of lead in 2009 in south dakota... with out lead in a 20 guage you are going to have to shoot some form of non-toxic to get the job done and i'm not willing to do that at there current prices.

I use my Mossberg 500 12 Gauge with Modified Choke. I've shot several different brands of guns and i shoot trap best with my Mossy, idk why but i do. We did some pheasant hunting this year but came up with nada. We don't have a dog so we just walk the fields and hope for the best. We also Dove hunt on the same public land we pheasant hunt on. Them little buggers were faster than i thought, def. taught me a lesson for next season.

My preferred gun and set up for Pheasant hunting is an olderBrowning B-80 20gashooting Remington Nitro 3in 1 1/4oz of lead #6
This year however (just to change things up) I hunted with an even older Stoeger ZepherWoodlander.410 side by side also loaded with Remington 3in shells 11/16oz of lead #6
I was pleasantly surprised on just how effective the little .410 was at dispatching Pheasant.
