Dear J-Bird; I wear Filson chaps in the desert brush country that I quail hunt. Everything down here is sharp and pointed. Cactus spine and thorns don't penetrate the material and I dont notice the weight at all.

I have Filson chaps also and was surprised at what a good job they did. They make you much less reluctant to jump in and start busting brush. I think they're much better than cordura for turning thorns. Some people like Boyt or Browning chaps also.
