Congratulations! I'm going to try to get back to Iowa for one more weekend before the season ends. I'm looking to get out around the Cedar Rapids area. Good luck for the rest of the season.

Porknbeans, you should have a good hunt in the Cedar Rapids area. Their are good numbers of birds in that area, as I know because I get over that way every once in a while. Every time I have been to the area, I saw big numbers of birds.

Good luck!!!

Based on my calculations for 700bdl870exp. He is over his limit for the year. Their have been 54 hunting days in the year so far, multiplied by three birds per day...that comes to 162 pheasant. He says he has taken 167 so far this year.

He needs to explain.

Birdy, you got me thinking I should look back at700bdl870exp's posts from the beginning of this thread and this is what I found out as far as possable legal birds compaired to his count.
max/700bdl870exp
11-14-2005 51/42
11-15-2005 54/45
11-16-2005 57/47
11-20-2005 69/66
12-05-2005114/132
12-20-2005159/167

On 12-05-2005 he reported being 18 over thehighest possable daily limit for the year.Taking into account the number he reported on 11-20-2005 he was 21 birdsover his highest possable daily limit andkilled an average of 4.4 birds per day since 11-20-2005.Remember this would mean he would have to hunt every day since 11-20-2005 and he would have still averaged taking 1.4 birds over his limit every day. Since 12-05-2005 he has taken 35 birds an average of 2.3 birds per day.

I too would like to hear an explination. I wonder if the DNR would like one as well?

I have been hunting the Cedar Rapids and, West Branch Area most of the winter. There are a lot birds out there. The only problem I am having now is the birds are so jumpy that even having dogs does not help. They are getting up 100+ yards a head of us. We have been posting people. Nut you know how that is sometimes you get lucky with where they fly most the time you don't. lolThis freezing snow on the ground is Really hard on the dogs too. Might be a good time to start road hunting. But I don't want to be the one to tell my dog that!!!!

I'm going to try to get back to Iowa for one last hunt the first part of January. I'm going to be in the Tama/Cedar Rapids area and the news about the birds getting wise isn't good for me. Why can't they just stay stupid?!

Good hunting to all and a very Merry Christmas.

I've been splitting my time between pheasant hunting and late muzzeloader deer. I have been seeing plenty of both! I can sum them both up with two words. Food Plots. That's where I've been finding them. The snow is almost gone and the hunting is a little better than it was a few weeks ago. The birds have been holding a little tighter again. Two three day weekends left for me. I figure four days of pheasant and two deer. I will look for a nice buck one more day, then shoot a doe to fill out if need be. I am enjoying the pheasant hunting more with the milder temps and lack of pressure.

My take on 700bdl870exp is that anyonewho pretty much posts only to give his bird countand gloat is probably full of it.

Ouch! That's a little sharp. I'm not denying what you are saying is wrong or right. What I do know is that the guy is young and we have all made mistakes in our youth due to our ignorance and brivado. Since I haven't seen a post from the guy in some time, I'm going to guess that he learned his lesson.
