RE: What's your favorite load for Pheasant?
As a guide on a shooting preserve we provide our guests with number 6 shot. All our birds are taken over pointers so the shots are close. We still use 12 ga because we find that not everybody is as good of a shot as they say they are. The 12 ga gives a little extra margin of error for those not so good shots. When we hunt wild birds for our own pleasure we use 20 ga with 4 shot in them. Late season after the snow comes in we might switch to a 12 ga with 4 shot for the extra punch.

i use a 12 gauge with winchester super X #4's. i think i have some 6's also but i use #4 primarily. don't listen to me though, i've only been once and missed all the birds i shot at but not my gun or my ammo's fault. im just a bad shot.

i perferr the federal hi power lead 4 shot 12 ga. i shoot them through a modified choke, perfect for pheasant hunting not 2 tight of a pattern and not 2 spread out perfect for those midrange shots.
