Mouth Calls

I just boutght some mouth calls. I cannot make a sound. I have never used any kind of mouth call before but I want to learn to call turkeys along with elk. I think I am not getting the cal in the right place along with my tongue. Is there anywhere I can go with some pictures or diagrams on how the reed should sit in your mouth.

RE: Mouth Calls

To be honest with you the calls can sit differently in anyones mouth. It all has to do with the size and shape of your mouth. You just have to put it in your mouth and get comfortable with it because it wont feel right at first. Then just put your tounge against the read and exhale. It may take time. I know a lot of people that it took them a while to even make a peep but once you get it everything gets easier. It didn't take me long to start to be able to do it though. It just takes time and practice. You can also order tapes or videos of calling tips and techniques to teach you how it is supposed to sound and how to do it. Good luck.

The reeds should be pointing toward the back your front teeth.

It should be positioned against the roof of your mouth such that your tongue presses it against the top of your mouth.

If your mouth is small or you have a soft gag reflex, you might have to trim a little bit off of the soft tape on the call.

I'll try to make a diagram with text - T=Teeth C=Call R=Reeds
