Ameristep Blind Question
 

I enjoy bowhunting and at the current time I couldn't afford one of the Double Bull blinds from my fav archery shop. Instead for about 80 bucks I purchased the ameristep outhouse. There's enough room in there for me to shoot my bow however, I still don't think that this provides enough cover for me. It's not dark inside so I belive the turkeys still might be able to see me. I'm wondering If I would damage the nylon material if I sprayed painted the inside black.

Anybody have any thoughts or success turkey hunting from this blind?

I dont think it should hurt the material. I do feel you would be better off if the inside was black. It would make it darker in there and the turkeys might not see as well but I'm not sure what it would do to the material. My guess is that you would be fine though.

You might want to look into the Ameristep DogHouse blind. It is bigger than the one you got and it has shoot through windows. I think I paid $70 for mine at Dunhams. I have used it for two season now and it has never failed me. Good for the money.

I have three windows that I can shoot out of now. So you have had success with your dog house even with it not being dark inside? If so, I may just leave it the way it is. I'm just curiouse if anybody else has had the same thoughts or concerns, or if it really makes a difference. I may just leave it the way it is, therefore I don't have to worry about damaging the material

I can shoot three directions as well. It is dark inside because it has window screens that you can see through and shoot through. The screens are painted cammo so to a turkey it just looks like a large bush.

I just bought the Ameristep doghouse for $ 59 at Dick's. it has black inside and is quite nice for the price

If you bought an Outhouse™ that isn't black inside then you bought an older model .

The newer ones have the black interior , and edge Re-Leaf™ leaf cut edges . I sold my earlier model because of it's tendency to "glow" when the light hit it wrong . I also had problems using my bow in it , but it's a 58" recurve . The Doghouse™ , or one of their other larger models are much better for bow hunting .

Spray painting it will darken the outside,the paint will bleed through, I tried it with an older outhouse. I now have the newer version too,much better but noiser to setup due to all the velcro,I may have to do some trimming on it.
